Staying Warm with Half the Wood

Tom L.'s wife was upset about the amount of pollution their outdoor wood boiler produced. Not only was it emitting lots of smoke, it also burned through a tremendous amount of wood to heat their 3,200 sq. ft home.

In Tom's words, "My outdoor wood boiler was about as inefficient as a fireplace." Tom solved his pollution problem with a Greenwood Model 100 high efficiency, clean burning, wood boiler.

The Greenwood furnace is installed in Tom's garage. It heats his entire home via a baseboard radiant heating system. Tom says, "I chose the Greenwood because of its high efficiency. I easily save 50% of the wood compared to my old outdoor wood boiler. I used to use 14 cords of wood each winter. Now, with the Greenwood, I'm using 6-7 cords to keep the house really warm."

Tom also enjoys other benefits of the Greenwood boiler: "I like that I don't have to split the wood and that I can stoke the boiler in my stocking feet, which is a real luxury."

A side benefit that Tom hadn't expected is reduced chimney maintenance. With his old boiler Tom's chimney required frequent cleaning to remove creosote. This time he found no creosote buildup.

"My wife is the one that got after me to do something about the pollution of our old outdoor wood boiler," says Tom. "I'm glad she did. We are both very satisfied. Greenwood is a major improvement over an outdoor wood boiler."
